New and familiar faces appointed to the BVNPT

Governor Schwarzenegger has made several appointments and reappointments to the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians:

Kevin Baucom, of Atascadero, has been reappointed to the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, where he has served as a member since 2007. He has served as assistant chief of recovery and mall services, substances abuse services and vocational services at Atascadero State Hospital since 2009. Previously, Baucom was a psychiatric technician instructor at Atascadero State Hospital from 1990 to 2009 and a psychiatric technician at Mesa Vista Hospital from 1989 to 1990. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1981 to 1987.

Ling Ling Chang, of Diamond Bar, has been appointed to the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. She has served as president and chief executive officer of the Youth Science Center since 2003 and city councilmember for Diamond Bar since 2009. Chang served on the Walnut Valley Water District Board of Directors from 2005 to 2009 and the Diamond Bar Parks & Recreation commission from 2004 to 2006. Previously, Chang was executive director for the United Family Services Center from 2001 to 2003 and project manager for FutureNet Technologies from 2000 to 2002. She is a member of the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona–Partners in Education.

Todd D’Braunstein , of Upland, has been reappointed to the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, where he has served as a member since 2005. He has served as a unit supervisor at Patton State Hospital since 2005. Previously, D’Braunstein was a unit supervisor for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from 2008 to 2009. Prior to that, he served at Patton State Hospital as a psychiatric technician instructor from 2001 to 2005 and senior psychiatric technician from 1997 to 2001. From 1994 to 1996, he was a psychiatric technician at the Lanterman Developmental Center. D’Braunstein serves on the Association of California State Supervisors’ Board of Directors.

Victor King, of Glendale, has been appointed to the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Since 2002, he has served as legal counsel and a member of the President’s Cabinet at California State University, Los Angeles. King was an associate and partner for Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard and Smith from 1999 to 2002, associate for Bottum and Feliton from 1996 to 1999 and associate for Ochoa and Sillas from 1991 to 1995. He is a member of the Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment Board of Directors, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the Pacific Council on International Policy and the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association.

John Vertido, of Roseville, has been reappointed to the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, where he has served as a member since 2005. He has been a consultant for Engineering System Consultants and a part-time nursing instructor and clinical coordinator at Western Career College since 2008. Previously, Vertido was a nursing instructor and clinical coordinator at Western Career College in Sacramento from 1996 to 2008 and a nursing instructor at Sierra College in Rocklin from 2000 to 2002. He was a vocational nurse at Pediatric Services of America from 1993 to 1996, American River Hospital from 1991 to 1993, O’Connor Hospital from 1989 to 1991 and Downey Community Hospital from 1984 to 1989. Vertido served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1980 to 2000. He is a volunteer nurse for the Haight Ashbury Free Clinics and a member of the California Vocational Nurse Educators.
