Running for office? Want to be a Job Steward?
Editor's note: Don't forget to see this other flier on the chapter elections process.
Every even year, CAPT holds elections for chapter officers. In
order to run for office, a candidate must be a member in good standing
by January 1, enter a declaration of candidacy by March 10 and have
completed job steward training by March 22.
Whether you are interested in running for office or simply wish to
become a job steward, CAPT is always seeking members who want to
help their colleagues resolve all kinds of job-related problems and
concerns.
They attempt to work out things informally if they can, but it sometimes
involves filing grievances over contract violations, or filing formal
complaints over other issues. They also provide representation in
parts of the adverse action process.
Becoming a job steward begins with completing a training session
that’s open to any interested CAPT member. If you are not a CAPT
member, you may still take the training by signing a membership
application at the door.
Topics covered in steward training include rights of employees
and unions, steward responsibilities, representation policies, duty of
fair representation, grievance-writing, complaint-writing and adverse
actions.
If you would like to request steward training, please contact
your local chapter office. For more information regarding the
current chapter election process, contact Debi Loger at
our Headquarters office in Sacramento at (800) 677-2278.
